About the Artist

Hi, I'm Steve Garskey.  I'm a multidisciplinary artist living in Edmonton, Alberta with my 2 sons, my partner and our dog.  If you're interested in my journey, inspiration, and the unique process that brings my art to life, continue down.  If you just want to see my collection, head to the gallery!

The Spark of Creation

Steve’s love of creation began early, sparked by drawing Garfield in elementary school. He continued to explore his creativity through life drawing, oil portraiture, and pottery, eventually studying at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD). Life’s adventures later led him into the woods and onward to Edmonton, Alberta, where work and landscaping further shaped his practice.

A deep love of the outdoors and years spent as a tree planter are reflected in Steve’s use of natural materials collected from a wide range of environments. Influenced by artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Steve is drawn to re-imagining everyday objects and discovering new possibilities within them. His work celebrates the beauty of nature, the spirit of experimentation, and the joy of creative discovery.

A Unique Process

Steve's process stands out by embracing found objects and upcycling them into art.  Prioritizing available resources, minimizing consumption and giving new life to discarded materials in each unique sculpture, painting, or assemblage.  I love the surprise of what I can find, what people and nature discard and what I can transform it into.

The Message Behind the Art

When experiencing my artwork, I hope viewers take away a sense that life is surprising, and that simple things can bring great joy. Each piece is an invitation to find wonder in the everyday.

"This is how to upcycle!  The synergy he creates through juxtaposition is incredible!"
